Day One: Thoughts from Urbana

Rain and clouds greeted me and two fellow compatriots as we drove from Chicago down I-57 to Urbana in the very early morning hours. Too early...

A quick memo to the organizers of the event: Well done overall, but I'd be a little clearer on the location (include an address or something on the website). There are two locales according to the uiuc.edu website with the name "Krannert".

Assorted highlights in no particular order:

ITEM: Seeing Bob, Paul, John, Gretchen, and Ben again, of course.

ITEM: My brother John Nichols happened to be there, so I stopped by and said hi. And I got to meet and chat with the gentleman whom John happened to be talking to at the time. You might recognize the name - Phil Donahue.

ITEM: When I stood in line to ask a question, I left early to try to get right in line first, but it turns out that I was second in line -- right behind Amy Goodman. And wow, did Amy ask some great questions. She should go into journalism or something. :-)

ITEM: Having a cubic buttload of snazzy new business cards (thanks Emily!) to pass out to everyone I met.

ITEM TO THOSE IN THE KNOW: The fireworks! Don't forget the fireworks!

Off to sleep (finally!)
