About Radio Free Conscience

Begun in September 1996, Radio Free Conscience is a half-hour bi-weekly radio program exploring the news and issues that affect grassroots and community-based media. On each program host Paul Riismandel explores various grassroots media outlets, the personalities behind these media, as well as relevant social and legal issues related to grassroots media.

Radio Free Conscience can be heard alternating Sundays at 10:00am on WEFT 90.1 FM in Champaign, Illinois.
You can tune in live on-line via Webradio by clicking here!

Selected programs and features are available on-line in the RFC Audio Archive.

Issues covered on Radio Free Conscience include:

  • Community and micropower ("pirate") radio
  • Community and public-access television
  • Independent radio and television producers
  • Independant, alternative and grassroots newspapers and publications
  • Legal and regulatory issues related to free speech in broadcasting and press

This is by no means an exhaustive list of subjects, and new topics will be explored all the time.

If you're involved in grassroots or community media and would like to have your organization profiled on Radio Free Conscience, please contact Paul Riismandel at paul@radiogeek.org
